Why not the best?
This story was first published in the Ideas section of the Sunday Boston Globe, February 1st, 2004. It was in a segment called "The Word," published every Sunday by Jan Freeman. The Word typically addressed contemporary issues around usage of the English language and grammar. Ever since I started reading the Boston Globe in the nineties (even subscribing for a time), I looked forward to this section every week, knowing I would be smarter about the language at the end of every article:
